Paralleloa was asked to restructure the mechanical and materials laboratory, in the context of the renewal of the center for research and innovation of the engineering school Mines ParisTech, after they had designed the coworking space La Bulle Électrique. Built in 1916, the room has undergone various interventions. Our project seeks to highlight some of the room's original charismatic features, such as its large windows, metal ceiling beams and heigh ceiling.
New mobile, turning, and retractable equipment allows for a flexible use of the room. A mezzanine enclosed in a thin glazing offers a workspace away from the machines with a view on the room. The historical metal beams, previously concealed behind a suspended ceiling, were restored and embellished by an emerald green. The window frames were refreshed by a light green, reminiscent of beginning of the century glass metal structures. Below the ceiling, air ducts painted in cerulean blue, light blue and grey, mimic the colors of the sky. Two shades of ocher, a variation of the yellow typically used for technical equipment and spaces, coat the structure of the mezzanines and their stairways. New storage units are covered in birch panels tinted in a transparent celadon green. |
